Community Project – Homes for Our Troops

Posted On November 24th, 2009

FSCapture LogoDuring our recent meetings with our website provider, Creating Your Space, we were introduced to a national program called Homes for Our Troops. It is a national non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004.This is a grass roots effort to support injured soldiers who have special needs for their homes. We have committed to being a part of the program.

It is with duty and honor that Homes for Our Troops assists severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

“We at Pierce Flooring & Design believe there is so much we can do to support those who defend our country. We are proud to be part of the Homes for Troops effort that is being conducted throughout the US. It is just one small thing we can do to be THANKFUL for our safety here at home.” – Jon Pierce

“I can’t tell you how proud and happy I am to be part of Pierce for participating in such a great cause!” – Sarah Wandle

The homes provided by Homes for Our Troops are given at NO COST to the Veterans. To learn more about this organization please visit: www.homesforourtroops.org

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our readers, customers and supporters. Let’s all remember those things we need to be thankful for including all of our Servicemen and Servicewomen.

How to Remove Curry Stains from Carpet – Reader Question

Posted On November 23rd, 2009

MOBURF-00000053-001Reader Question:

I have spilled Indian Dal Curry on the carpet. I quickly cleaned this with wet cloth and also vaccum cleaned that area. But after a few hours now I have noticed dry light stains on the carpet. Can you please advise on how to get rid of it?

Answer:

Since curry is such a tough stain to deal with we consulted with the Carpet and Rug Institute. They put me in touch with member company Shaw Industries.

This is their advice:

“Have the customer rinse the spot thoroughly using a shop vac or an extractor.

CTI’s Proschoice (www.proschoice.com) Stain Magic will work on a set stain  Usually, we suggest that this be applied by a professional cleaning company.  You may need to accelerate it with a steam iron.  You can click on Distributors on the Pro’s Choice website and get a list by state.  The distributor will be able to recommend a cleaning firm that is trained to use their products. ”

We hope this suggestion helps solve your problem. For future reference, you can find stain solutions on the Carpet and Rug Institute’s spot solver. Feel free to share your favorite curry recipe with us for those of us that love curry!

Sincerely,

Your friends at Pierce Flooring and Design

Customer Experience Story

Posted On November 10th, 2009

PICT0030At Pierce Flooring and Design, we pride ourselves on our service to our customers and our customer service experience. We recently had a great experience with a customer and wanted to share it will all of our readers.

Late one afternoon, a customer walked into our store and right away we could tell that she didn’t know where to start. After greeting her, we found that her youngest child was going off to college and it was time to replace the flooring and all of the signs of years of wear and tear from her three children. You could tell it was an emotional time, but that replacing the flooring was something that needed to be done. Knowing this was a difficult time, we tried to help her view this project not as a replacement of floors with years and years of memories, but an opportunity to do whatever she wanted with their bedrooms!

So, we explored the home office option, the workout room, craft room, additional closet, guest bedroom and many others. After exploring the different flooring options, showing her all of the new introductions since the last time she purchased flooring and the pro’s and con’s, she decided to replace the carpet in the main living areas with the hardwood she’s always wanted as the first part of the project. The next phase would include replacing the carpet in 2 of the childrens bedrooms. One would receive a nice patterned carpet to become a guest bedroom and one would receive a durable, but perfectly neutral carpet in case that bedroom ever needed to become a nursery for grandchildren.

After much discussion, she decided not to change the third bedroom into a room for herself in the hopes that she would always have her three children home for the holidays and having a room of their own was important to her. She did however, decorate each of them with a theme that she wanted! After all, they weren’t there everyday anymore! She did plan ahead though and installed hardwood in the third bedroom so she could use the area rug she found and fell in love with.

At the end of the day, she was no longer anxious about changing the flooring and was genuinely excited about the new guest rooms and the new looks she was going to get to create. She looked at it like 3 mini projects to keep her mind off of her youngest one leaving the nest. She made excellent choices and those choices reflected her style and the individual styles she envisioned for each of those rooms. We even made the plan for the installers to cut out the section of carpet with the finger nail polish stain that happened over 15 years ago as a reminder of a funny family story they all shared a laugh about.

Helping customers is what we are all about. It is very rewarding to be able to help guide someone into a decision that makes them happy and fall in love with their home all over again. There is nothing better than helping someone and seeing their reaction when it’s all complete. People like this customer make us love what we do.
